League of Women Voters Lecture Series: Carson v. Makin – Public Funds For Religious Schools
February 12 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
League of Women Voters 2024-25 Lecture Series: Carson v. Makin
Public Funds for Religious Schools
Join us for a discussion on the June 2022 Supreme Court decision that ruled Maine’s “nonsectarian” requirement for tuition assistance payments violates the Free Exercise Clause, mandating public funding for religious schools.
Harrison Stark, Senior Staff Attorney at the Vermont ACLU, will provide insight into the case, drawing from his extensive experience in civil rights and constitutional law.
Also joining the conversation is Rebecca Holcombe, former Secretary of Education and current Vermont state representative, who will offer her perspective on the implications for education policy.
This event promises a thought-provoking discussion on the intersection of law, religion, and education.
This program will take place on Zoom.
