Primordial
By Kate Arslambakova
On display in the Kitzmiller Fiction Room through November

“The inspiration for this work came when I was staring down a microscope while working at a veterinary hospital after undergrad. I really enjoyed seeing the simplicity and balance of the microscopic world that was usually hidden from view. Images of cells and tissue at the earliest stages of development were the catalyst for interpretations on the canvas. Highly influenced by the surrealist movement, this body of work, attempts to bring the primordial microscopic world into focus. Just like bacteria under a microscope, these images are brimming with energy and vibration. These works create a sense of flow and steady movement. The viewer’s unconscious mind will respond to compositions on canvas and make visceral connections based on their own lived experiences.”
