Water Lily Paintings
inspired by Claude Monet
By First Grade Artists of Union Elementary School
On display in the Children’s Library through May
First grade learners are exploring sound, light and color in science classes. In Art class, we discovered the work of impressionist artist Claude Monet. We explored the ways that he loved to observe color and light, and play with color and feeling as he painted outside. We discussed how the new inventions of paint in tubes as well as black and white photography sparked the impressionist painters to try new styles of painting and how they showed persistence. We looked closely at some of Monet’s paintings of his water lily pond and took a virtual tour of his famous gardens. First grade artists were inspired to play with reflections, color and light as they created water lily garden scenes.
We talked about the small moments and beauty in nature we enjoy that make our hearts sing. What makes your heart sing today?
